2/11 Raya Brass Band & Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band

RAYA BRASS BAND since 2008 Raya Brass Band has energized clubs, international festivals, rooftop parties, and subway cars with its hard-driving, original brass band music. The six members of the band bring their unique voices to the group, creating a sound informed as much by their love for the fierce and seductive music of the Balkans as it is by New Orleans brass bands, punk rock, and global music. Featuring trumpet, sax, accordion, tuba, and percussion, this band wails, sweats, and shouts alongside its audience.

EMPEROR NORTON'S STATIONARY MARCHING BAND combines the rich musical history of the circus and the vagabond peoples of Europe with the raw energy of avant-garde jazz, the burning heat of funk and the irreverence and fun of todays Vaudeville for a sound that is somehow familiar yet like no other. Label them anyway you like! Call them avant world fusion, call them experimental big band, call them gypsy steamfunk, call them circus noise! They may be tough to sum up, but its easy to tell you they'll show you a good time and theyll get a crowd dancing!

COCEK! BRASS BAND is the brainchild of trumpet player Sam Dechenne.  The band performs original music by Dechenne based on the sounds of Eastern European brass bands.  They are a 5-piece group (2 trumpets, trombone, tuba and bass drum) that rocks the house on a very regular basis.  The band's members come from internationally touring ensembles like John Brown's Body and Itzhak Perlman and bring a blend of dance music with stellar improvisation and melodies that evoke crazy dancing, contemplative thoughts and good times.

BLACK BEAR COMBO is a raucous mutt channeling the common energy between traditional music from eastern Europe and the Balkans, punk rock, and free jazz. Since 2002 we've brought our sound to clubs, basements, festivals, weddings, funerals, parties and street corners across the country.

CHARLES MANTIS is a project created by Gerald Bailey featuring musicians from Chicago and throughout the world.  Charles Mantis is a rogue sideman who blends trumpet, beats, elements of Electronic, Jazz, Balkan and Dance music into one unique style. The music is an improvised creation of electronic anti-tech soundscape, beats, trumpet and gypsy folk.

LOWDOWN BRASS BAND, hailing from Chicago, is a horn-driven tour de force. From street beat to metal, the LDB showcases their unique high-energy style.  The LDB breaks the barrier between audience and performer with their live show, which features dynamic vocalists, hip-hop MCs, and body movement that gets any wallflower up and on their feet.

NEW SOUND BRASS is a Philadelphia based Brass Band that offers a fresh and soulful twist on various styles of music. This multi cultural unit draws influence and inspiration from its vast and diverse background to produce a sound that has been described as Philly spoken through brass.

PITCHBLAK BRASS BAND uses the epic sounds of tubas, trombones, saxophones and other typically non-hip hop instruments in the spirit of The Roots and some of rap’s iconic live bands, to deliver an energy that samples, loops and breakbeats can’t always capture. Their blend of soundscapes and lyrical exuberance creates a grand adventure in listening, one that can hold the attention of music fans from across a fairly wide spectrum. -Manny Faces, Birthplace Magazine.
